Interagency advocacy on behalf of foreign and US clients

WGA’s Competency

Europe

With the combined on-location working experience of our senior team that well exceeds 110 years of experience in pre-and-post-communist Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the former Soviet Union, we have a depth of knowledge that gives context to our unique ability to understand the region better than most. As this evolving part of Europe continues to strengthen its Trans-Atlantic bona fides; powerful forces within and outside of Europe will test their resolve to stay the course in the next four years. WGA is well-positioned to assist clients in mitigating the blowback from the political turmoil ahead, while providing a roadmap to facilitate a deeper understanding and relationships in Washington and elsewhere. The unification and integration of Europe has become a verifiable success story since the end of WWII. The next chapters ahead will test the bandwidth of business and government alike, as perceived shared values become a testing ground of ideas and challenges that we have yet to confront.

Asia

Washington Global Advisors (WGA) has an emerging practice to assist clients in selected countries in Asia where our in-house experiences and strengths can add value on all four of our practice offerings. Currently we are engaged with the Philippines, Sri Lanka and ROC Taiwan. Manila under new leadership is becoming a serious competitor to other ASEAN countries in the IT and manufacturing space, while its strategic value has increased as the PRC tests Philippine sovereignty and resolve daily. Sri Lanka is also emerging as a reliable partner to the US. After the elections in Q4 of 2024, a more broad-based government will most likely emerge and renewed political stability could be forthcoming as the need for economic, political and land reform takes center stage. Taiwan has always been a crucial partner of the US on numerous economic fronts. It’s strategic importance and manufacturing base has now made the ROC an indispensable contributor for the US economy that guarantees it will have front-page relevance for years to come.

KNOWLEDGE CURATORS

As a sidebar to our advisory services, we are curating independent news sources for users of our WGA DC website covering the countries that are of interest for us. On a daily basis, we have curated news from primary news sources originating from these countries, all in one location for you. This free e-letter is called the Balkan Regional Review, and covers the former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Albania.  Secondly, we will also go “old-school” and have a printed, hard-copy monthly newsletter with exclusive content that will be subscription-based. You will soon be able to sign-up for it, and securely pay on-line via Square. Every two months, it will be sent to your office or home, with exclusive content. The founder of WGA used to publish small circulation business intelligence newsletters in the late 80s and early 90s covering the former Warsaw Pact and COMECON countries. This new publication, known as Strategic Political Report Balkans, will cover the region and go to print in Q1, 2025.

Who We Are

As a core team of “old hands” (or if you prefer seasoned professionals), we have seen history unfold in the Balkans, Eastern Europe and Asia up close and personal. We were there at the fall of communism in 1989, and we have seen other authoritarian regimes rise and fall firsthand, such as Ferdinand Marcos; and we have also rebuilt minority Muslim communities near conflict zones in South Asia. At WGA we represent decades of experience working for the USGOV overseas, and in addition, we also have vast experience in establishing successful companies in the private sector, while fostering the establishment of AMCHAMs when capitalism was still in its nascent stage. We are in our element when we assist overseas clients who want to improve relations or need access to the US Government at multiple levels – while mitigating the unexpected.
